Buffaloes blow 29-point lead as Stanford Cardinal secure win in double overtime

Colorado Buffaloes appeared to be headed for an easy victory over Stanford Cardinal on Friday with a sizable 29-0 halftime lead. But thanks to a remarkable comeback, Stanford managed to win in double overtime, 46-43.

It was the biggest lead blown in program history, while Stanford had the biggest comeback in school history. According to ESPN, Stanford overcame the fourth-largest comeback in Pac-12 history after facing the biggest halftime deficit ever.

In the second half, the Cardinal scored 36 points to tie the game and force overtime. After the first overtime period ended with no clear winner, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who finished with 400 yards and five touchdowns, threw an interception in the end zone, allowing Cardinals kicker Joshua Karty to convert a 31-yard field goal and seal the victory.

Elic Ayomanor significantly contributed to Stanford’s triumph with 13 catches, 294 yards (a school record), and three touchdowns.
